Summer Series Success: Nonprofit Trainings Yield Positive Results
This summer, Center for Communities (CFC) – Knoxville Leadership Foundation’s nonprofit capacity building program – passed the baton to Alliance for Better Nonprofits. We led a Summer Series featuring eight trainings that served 165 people representing 65 nonprofits.
Abby Wintker Burris, Executive Director of Friends of the Knox County Public Library, attended every training and shared her experience with us:
“ABN trainings had an immediate impact on our organization. The Summer Series was a catalyst for change in how we approach our work. We gleaned something from every class, from how to be more strategic with our time and resources to ways we can empower our board members and volunteers.
As an Executive Director, trainings provide a third-party voice – an expert – who validates the concept of improvement. Speakers not only identify the challenges nonprofits face, they provide meaningful tools and best practices we can implement right away.
The classes also spur collaboration with nonprofit peers. It’s a great way to get objective feedback and connect to resources. Networking is a real strength of what ABN is doing. You can read articles and books on how to be more effective and efficient. But there’s something really powerful about being in a class setting where everyone’s mission is to be a better, stronger nonprofit.”
